What's causing "impaired" video?

Over the last month I’ve been getting this error:

Not sure what’s causing this, my guess is something in configuration of some component.

I’m running self-hosted Jitsi on Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS. (installed: jitsi-meet 2.0.8138-1, jvb2 2.2-63-g252d14bc-1)

Appreciate any info!

Check your browser’s js console for errors

Browser console has this error:
Uncaught TypeError: Cannot set properties of undefined (setting ‘sourceNameSignaling’)
at VM113:911:34

And this warning (probably not significant):
Logger.js:154 2022-12-24T00:21:51.359Z [modules/statistics/AnalyticsAdapter.js] <Object.dispose>: Disposing of analytics adapter.

In addition, numerous info messages, presumably not important…).

Tried it again, this time with more info:

deCD23XyzAbc:911 Uncaught TypeError: Cannot set properties of undefined (setting ‘sourceNameSignaling’)
at deCD23XyzAbc:911:34
(anonymous) @ deCD23XyzAbc:911

In the debugger:
187: var config = {
            …
908: }
909:
910: /* eslint-enable no-unused-vars, no-var */
911: config.flags.sourceNameSignaling = true; // ← ERROR
912: config.flags.sendMultipleVideoStreams = true;
913: config.flags.receiveMultipleVideoStreams = true;

Is this relevant to the problem?

Debugger shows:

Looks like your websocket connection is failing. Most likely a misconfiguration.
Is everything hosted on the same server or is JVB remote?
Is the websocket block properly defined in your nginx config?
What about jvb.conf?

ATM everything is on one host. I’ve scoured the configs and can’t find anything anomalous. Here’s jvb.conf:

videobridge {
    http-servers {
        public {
            port = 9090
        }
    }
    websockets {
        enabled = true
        domain = "meet.mydomain.com:443"
        tls = true
    }
}

And nginx.conf:

server_names_hash_bucket_size 64;

    application/wasm     wasm;

I believe these follow the official examples, I sure can’t spot anything wrong.

Can you share your config.js?
Also, it might be worth looking into jvb and nginx logs to see if anything stands out.

Related with this part, see

Thanks for the idea! I added the suggested lines to the domain-config.js file. However, still got the warning dialog. FWIW the browser console log didn’t show the “Uncaught TypeError” I had seen earlier.
Unfortunately, the websocket issue, as noted above, is still there.

Here’s the config.js:

/* eslint-disable comma-dangle, no-unused-vars, no-var, prefer-template,     vars-on-top */

/*
 * NOTE: If you add a new option please remember to document it here:

 */

var subdir = '<!--# echo var="subdir" default="" -->';
var subdomain = '<!--# echo var="subdomain" default="" -->';

if (subdomain) {
    subdomain = subdomain.substr(0, subdomain.length - 1).split('.')
        .join('_')
        .toLowerCase() + '.';
}

Don’t know how informative these are. Maybe there’s something else I should look for that would be more useful.

Seems like TCP/9090 is already used by another process

Absolutely, you are right! There was a program using port 9090, changing its port to 19090 appears to resolve the problem. At least as far as the warning dialog no longer showing up, and the errors are gone from the browser log.

Appreciate your help—I should have spotted the problem sooner, but alas I missed it.

Curiously, hadn’t changed the configuration of any of the involved programs in many months. Yet the problem only became evident in the last few weeks. AFAIK JVB has used 9090 for a long time, and so has the other program. Wonder why the conflict wasn’t causing problems until recently? It’s not clear at all what changed.

In any case, thanks again! The team’s knowledge and assistance were very effective in resolving the problem!

We recently introduced the dialog. When this communication is not working your videos will be limited to 180p and sometimes screensharing will not work.

Yes, the dialog is a good idea. Getting an alert that something’s wrong is useful. In my case the interfering program wasn’t always running so bad effects were less obvious. Would be useful to document in the manuals re: what the dialog/warning means.

Hi
I am getting this message, i dont know how to resolve or either hide this message. Please help.
