Updating Jitsi, Prosody, etc

Hello everyone,

We have Jitsi Meet working on my VPS Ubuntu 18.04 Server. Kindly installed by our hosting provider.

I am a newbie to Ubuntu, Servers, etc, but i’m very happy to be learning so much lately.

Currently we have Prosody Version 0.10 Installed. And I think that’s causing ghost users problems after they crash / disconnect.

What I would like to know is, what is the safest and easiest way to update Prosody, and also Jitsi to be working well in the future.

I’m have been using Putty for SSH and sFTP to do everything.

For Prosody, is it as Easy as this?

1 - sudo apt-get purge prosody

2 - sudo apt-get install prosody

3 - change storage to “memory”

No need to reinstall Jitsi or reconfigure anything?

Thank you guys.

I am new to Jitsi. I just got mine to work.
I started with a fresh install, you may not have to, but you might.
When Jitsi-Meet with Prosody 10 worked, I had ghost users.

I followed the instructions at https://prosody.im/download/package_repository
they explain how to update repositories, get the key, apt-get update, apt-get install prosody

I did not purge prosody. (maybe I should have)

I edited /etc/prosody/conf.avail/mysite.lua
changed storage in two locations internal.auth.meet.mysite, conference.meet.mysite
I changed “none” to 'memory" in both locations

I edited /etc/prosody/prosody.cfg.lua
added Include “config.avail/*.cfg.lua” at the bottom.

Hope that helps

Hi Steveb, thank you for your feedback.

I think the Ghost Users are now fixed for me as I managed to update Prosody by doing this:

#upgrade prodosy
echo deb http://packages.prosody.im/debian $(lsb_release -sc) main | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list
wget https://prosody.im/files/prosody-debian-packages.key -O- | sudo apt-key add -
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install prosody

Still, I think this topic is useful and may help other fellow users in the community about updates.
