[sip-comm] Webcam trouble under Linux

#1

Hello,

I tried to make sip communicator working under Linux as root user. JMF detects it but it says : "Can't open video card (0-9)" when detecting capture devices in JMF registry. And when trying to make a call it says :

net.java.sip.communicator.media.MediaException: Failed to initialise rtp manager for track 0 encoded as ULAW/rtp @ [192.168.0.15]:8054!
at net.java.sip.communicator.media.AVTransmitter.createTransmitter(AVTransmitter.java:441)

at gov.nist.javax.sip.EventScanner.run(EventScanner.java:274)
at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:534)

Webcam model : Philips ToUcam pro PCVC 740 K
OS : Fedora Core 3 (2.6.9)

I've patched the kernel with the latest drivers(Pwc and Pwcx) and of course loaded them and I'm running Sip communicator from the src files.
I'm running it under Windows XP with exactly the same src file and the same webcam and it's working perfectly!

Can someone help me?

Cheers,

David

Hello David,

Have a look at the sip-communicator.xml file and make sure that all fields specifying an IP address have the address of your machine. E.g. Make sure that javax.sip.IP_ADDRESS is relevant. AVTransmitter will try to bind to that address when sending data.

Cheers
Emil

Hi,

I've checked that all IP address fields are well filled. They're the same files that I use under windows XP.

Regards,

David

Hi,

I've solved the problem : there was a bad alias in my /etc/hosts file.
It was :
127.0.0.1 mybox localhost.mydomain localhost
192.x.x.x mybox mybox.domain mybox

and I changed it to :

127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.mydomain localhost
192.x.x.x mybox mybox.domain mybox

and now, it's working!

Thx,

David
