[sip-comm] supported video codecs for XMPP

#1

I am trying to do a video call between SIP Communicator (Windows) and
Empathy (Linux). Is there a limited set of codecs that SIP
Communicator supports for XMPP? Does it rely on codecs that are
bundled with itself or can it use any codec installed in the OS? I'm
curious about support for Theora and/or VP8. I noticed the codec list
in the video tab of the settings window but I didn't see any other
related information on the wiki about video codec support for XMPP.
Thanks in advance.

Emil,

Thanks for answering all my questions and the suggestion about
enabling H.263. I will try that. I look forward to potential support
for patent-free video codecs in the future.

Hey Jonathon,

We currently support H.264 and H.263 for both SIP and XMPP. Both work on win, lin and mac and both come bundled. VP8 may come later next year. Theora is less likely.

For Empathy interop you may want to enable H.263 as it is disabled by default.

Hope this helps,
Emil
