I'm a developer working on a piece of software that has some messenger-like
functionality (www.vivraterra.com <http://www.vivraterra.com/> ), written in
Java Swing. I ran across your open source app the other day and was
impressed with the progress made so far.
I have been scratching my head over how to detect a user's presence (Whether
the user is sitting in front of the computer or if he/she's away from the
computer). The client may be running in the task tray without any frames or
other UI elements on the screen to detect mouse or keyboard events. But the
user may still be available, working with some other application. I noticed
that your application is a swing app, so I was hoping that you may have
figured this out already.
How are you detecting your user's presence from within your java client?
