[sip-comm] Log Chat History resets on restart

#1

Hi,

I saw Emil's presentation at FOSDEM and decided to give sip-communicator
a try again.

I disabled Log Chat History by unchecking the option, and see this
change in the ~/.sip-communicator/sip-communicator.properties file:

service.gui.IS_MESSAGE_HISTORY_SHOWN=false
net.java.sip.communicator.impl.msghistory.isMessageHistoryEnabled=false
service.gui.MESSAGE_HISTORY_SIZE=10

I quit s-c, restart it, and those lines are still set as you see there.
However, "Log Chat History" is now checked, and I indeed do have chat
history.

Two questions come up:

1) when I disable chat history logs and uncheck "show history", I still
have history and logs.

2) Why does s-comm ignore the sip-communicator.properties settings?

My ~/.sip-communicator/logs show:

21:26:02.519 FINER: impl.protocol.sip.SipLogger.logStackTrace().41
JAIN-SIP stack trace
java.lang.Throwable
        at net.java.sip.communicator.impl.protocol.sip.SipLogger.logStackTrace(SipLogger.java:41)
        at gov.nist.javax.sip.SipProviderImpl.handleEvent(SipProviderImpl.java:182)
        at gov.nist.javax.sip.stack.SIPTransactionStack.removeTransaction(SIPTransactionStack.java:1509)
        at gov.nist.javax.sip.stack.SIPClientTransaction$TransactionTimer.runTask(SIPClientTransaction.java:231)
        at gov.nist.javax.sip.stack.SIPStackTimerTask.run(SIPStackTimerTask.java:29)
        at java.util.TimerThread.mainLoop(Timer.java:534)
        at java.util.TimerThread.run(Timer.java:484)

I'm using User-Agent: SIP Communicator1.0-alpha3-nightly.build.2394Linux
on OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.6.1) (6b16-1.6.1-3ubuntu1)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 14.0-b16, mixed mode)

Is it my jdk?

Thanks!

Hi,

the property IS_MESSAGE_HISTORY_SHOWN is only used for the UI to decide
whether to show the history or not in the chat window, when you open it. You
can see and MESSAGE_HISTORY_SIZE - this is the number of messages shown in
the chat window.
The exceptions you see in in the log file are normal. They are coming from
the sip stack and are only tracing some sip messages cause logging is turned
high for the file logger.
If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask :slight_smile:

Cheers

Hi Andrew,

1) when I disable chat history logs and uncheck "show history", I still
have history and logs.

I've reproduced the problem and will have a look at it as soon as possible. In the mean time could you please file an issue for it on our bug tracker on java net.

Thanks for pointing this out and sorry for any inconvenience this may caused you!

Regards,
Yana

Hi again,

I was looking at the properties and haven't noticed that there is an option
in the gui which actually disables the whole history.
And I have also missed the property isMessageHistoryEnabled :slight_smile: which
actually must disable the whole history.
