[sip-comm] hy SIP communicator sends REGISTER so often?

#1

I am new to SIP and am interested in why Communicator ends REGISTER
requests so often? Is it really required?

Hi,

it is the default behavior in sip-communicator to use Registers as
keep-alive. Normally when using UDP a standard firewall will keep
track of open directions on the firewall for about 25-30 seconds, so
we use the Register packet to keep those open and avoid any problems.

You can change or completely disable keep alives from the configuration
window for any given account.

Cheers,
Emil

sending options requests would be a more lightweight alternative.
perhaps it can be configured to use options instead of register.

That's indeed one of the options in our keep alive list, so you just
need to select it if that's what you prefer.

Hope this helps,
Emil
