[sip-comm] How do I configure sip communicator for transferring video...

#1

Hi,

Emil, Thank you for your response.

I am now able to transfer video between two SIP communicators, in the
following configuration.

[Working Config] The "sip-comm A" is configured to use the
lostinspace.mov media source file. The "sip-comm B" is configured to
capture video from a locally attached webcam. In this case, the video
transfer happens successfully, in *both* directions. The preferred video
encoding was set to 34 ( H.263 ) in both the sip-comms.

However, I notice there are some limitations.

1. In the above [Working Config], if "sip-comm B" does not have a webcam
attached, the video transfer from "sip-comm A" to "sip-comm B" does not
happen.

2. In the above [Working Config], if we use a .avi media source for
"sip-comm A", then video transfer does not happen, even though the
preferred video encoding was set to 34 ( H.263 ). The SDP of "sip-comm
A" states that it can do a=recvonly for video. I don't understand why it
cannot do "a=sendrecv" if the media type is set to .avi.

Any clues?

Regards,
Sethu.

Hello Sethu,

Normally Video is supposed to be there by default and if it's not, then
this is most probably a bug. Unfortunately we would not be able to track
down this one since it pertains to the old (pre1.0) version of the
communicator and we're all working on the new 1.0 which puts us in a
very delicate situation that I most sincerely hope won't last much
longer.

Thank you, all for your patience and understanding.

Have a magnificent New Year's Eve!

Cheers
Emil

Hi,

Newbie question on sip-communicator.

Can someone please tell me how to configure the sip-communicator for
transferring video ( MPEG format ) ?

I dont see a provision in the default UI to do this ( attached for
your reference ) . Do I need to install any additional plugins ?

BTW, when I tried to Add the "MpegVideo" codec from the Settings ->
JMF Registry ->Plugins->Codec option, I get a "JMF Registry error"
message stating "Could not add item". I googled a bit, but could not
find something helpful.

I am using the latest nightly build dated 01-DEC-2005 from the link

http://clarinet.u-strasbg.fr/sip-communicator/download/nightly-builds/la
test/ ..

Appreciate your help.

Thanks in advance,

Sethu.
