[sip-comm] good sip account provider

#1

Hi,

I am new to sip communicator and sip in general. But, I would like to use
SIP communicator because I am also a Java developer. Unfortunately, After
installing it on my Ubuntu laptop I cannot seam to find a good sip account.
I have an account with ekiga.net but when SIP communicator says that it
cannot reach the server to authenticate the account. I also have an account
with iptel.org but sip communicator logs in and then will ask me about every
5 mins for my password saying that authentication fails (but, it works for
several seconds inbetween). If anybody knows how to fix these problems or
know of a better sip account provider please let me know.

Thanks,

Josh

Hi Josh,

It is SIP Communicator's fault. I'm currently working on this very
issue, see https://sip-communicator.dev.java.net/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=435

You are probably behind a NAT. Sip Communicator should use a STUN
server to find your public address/port mapping but it doesn't work
for now. Expect a patch within a week.

I also have an account
with iptel.org but sip communicator logs in and then will ask me about every
5 mins for my password saying that authentication fails (but, it works for
several seconds inbetween).

You can increase the log level by editing lib/logging.properties:
java.util.logging.FileHandler.level = FINEST
net.java.sip.communicator.impl.protocol.sip.level = FINEST

You will find the log obtained in log/. If you want to post it here,
be sure to remove any personal information (credentials, etc).

Cheers,
