[sip-comm-dev] Zeroconf or not? / What about RSS?

#1

Hi,

I have SC running on two machines with a similar setup: Ubuntu Lucid Lynx on the first machine and on the other one Maverick Meerkat). Only on Lucid SC offers me Zeroconf - not so on the Maverick side. It's just not there.

What's missing? Do I have to install something else to have Zeroconf? I compared the deb- packets named Zeroconf and Avahi on both sides and couldn't see any difference. Or is something new in Maverick that prevents Zeroconf from working?

Q2: I've read that SC is able to retrieve RSS Feeds as messages (which would be cool). Is this still the case? Do I have to find / bake myself / install a plugin for that?

Thanks for answers
Conrad

We are not depending on external packets for Bonjour support so that
shouldn't be the issue. I suppose something's going wrong during startup
and the zeroconf bundle fails to load on one of your boxes.

A log file could help resolve the issue.

It's probably high time we updated our Bonjour support but there are
more important things right now like finishing Jingle for example.

We are also considering breaking the Bonjour support across the various
protocol bundles so that every separate account would discover the
contact it could communicate with ... we'll see.

Yes, this is indeed supported but currently disabled (along with IRC)
because they needed to be loved and we didn't feel like that was a
priority at the time.

You could easily reenable it. You need to check out the application from
SVN, then add the "bundle-rss" target as a dependency to the "bundles"
target in build.xml, and then add then edit
"lib/felix.client.run.properties" to contain "protocol-rss.jar" like this:

  reference:file:sc-bundles/reconnectplugin.jar \
+ reference:file:sc-bundles/protocol-rss.jar \
  reference:file:sc-bundles/protocol-zeroconf.jar

Hope this helps,
Emil
