[sip-comm-dev] Where is the wiki these days?

#1

Hi! I've noticed a few posts about NetBeans lately and decided I could spare a little time review the procedures and update the wiki.

The version on http://wikinet.u-strasbg.fr/~sipcomm/ hasn't changed for ages and still talks about checking out from CVS, so I'm obviously not looking at the correct server because the one on http://www.sip-communicator.org/ talks about svn.

What do I need to do to update the current wiki, please?

I still have a userid for the old wiki - will that, or my sipcomm developer userid have the appropriate permissions already?

Regards,

Brian

Hey Brian,

Our wiki is still on sip-communicator.org (and that's actually where
it's been since November 2005).

The one on wikinet was just an experiment that we have played with for a
month or two before SC 1.0 was even born.

Cheers
Emil

How time flies... and all the last updates were mine! Perhaps the rest of you moved and forgot to tell me?

Yes, I can see the wiki on http://www.sip-communicator.org/index.php/Main/HomePage.

My problem is that I can't figure out how to update it.

The alt/e trick on the old wiki doesn't work on the new site. Even when I've logged on to our project on java.sun.com, I can't find an edit option on any of the wiki menus.

I've looked hard but can't find a wiki entry that tells me how to update the wiki, either (recursive questions are apparently not supported)!

Am I being stupid?

I am not sure I follow.

Yes, alt+e doesn't work with latest browser versions. Try manually
adding ?action=edit at the end of the url you'd like to edit

Not important! I simply meant that I had lost track of the time and was shocked to see that my last significant contributions to the wiki were over three years old.

I have added a new FAQ wiki entry about how to update the wiki. I was pleased to see the pages are still restricted to be updated only by project developers.

I also updated the existing SVN instructions to make them more readable. I've added notes about escaping special characters in the command line and how to deal with the untrusted SSL server cert.

I've done a major review on the NetBeans page, particularly with the issue about it not being able to checkout the project because of the SSL alert. I don't think this issue is important enough to fix - presumably we could add a trusted certificate authority to the SVN control files, but I don't have time or enthusiasm to pursue the matter...

Finally, I decided we needed to say a bit more about the setup for running unit tests, so I added two new sections in the DeveloperDocumentation page that refer to new pages which describe customising the accounts.properties and testing.properties files. These pages are a bit skimpy, but make a reasonable start. Feel to flesh them out if anything obviously helpful springs to mind.

You can verify my changes from two starting points...

1. FAQ - a) how to update wiki, b) ant fails "no test found".

2. Developer Documentation - a) retrieve and build the source, b) how to configure netbeans, c) how to define test accounts, d) how to run subsets of tests.

I hope you approve!

Brian
