[sip-comm-dev] Webcams on Linux ?

#1

The reason why I had this problem while capturing audio on JMF was that
I didn't have the ALSA sound drivers installed.

ALSA sound drivers permits to do capture and playback.

Hello Emil,

Thank you for you reply.

Just two quick questions.

Which kernel are you using ? (2.5.65 apparently)

And more important, are you using the ALSA drivers for the sound ? (it
should be!)

Thanks,
Laurent

Hello Laurent

I don't see what might be causing ur problem. If u don't need the camera

- try removing it from the JMFRegistry using the Settings menu. Other
than that I don't think I'll be able to look into the matter very soon
cause I've other priorities right at the moment.

In case u figure it out. It'd be very kind of you to contribute the
solution.

Cheers
Emil

Hello Emil,

I have the webcam Philips ToUCam Pro which is working fine. I tested
with the tool jmstudio of JMF Linux Performance Pack.

However, I cannot capture audio only and audio + video.

I know that it's more a JMF problem and a problem in the configuration

of the system but maybe, you can help me because plenty of JMF users
had this problem and may be you solved it to make SIP Communicator
working.

Thank-you very much in advance,
Laurent

Note :

Here is the error that I have when I try to capture Audio + Video :

Hello Laurent,

Personally I've tried with Logitech QuickCam Pro (uses phillips' pwc
and

pwcx) and TerraCam USB

Anyone else had any other experience?

I think you'd get more substantial input on the JMF-INTEREST list

Cheers

Hello,

I would like to know which webcams are working on Linux with SIP
Communicator (JMF in fact).

Or, which model of webcam is used to test SIP Communicator on Linux ?

Thank-you.
