[sip-comm-dev] VoxOx

#1

Guys,

I just read a review on arstechnica.com of www.voxox.com -
http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20081104-voxox-wants-to-unify-voice-e-mail-social-networking.html
- and, because it seemed similar to SIP Communicator, I thought I'd
share it in case it provokes ideas. For example, I personally like the
particular use of visible statuses per registered account close to the
photo at the top (I didn't feel brave enough to install the
application and just browsed the screenshots on the main page) in
contrast to a single global status because I sometimes miss them in
the current SC UI and I catch myself checking the individual status
now and then to make sure they're all connected as expected.

Best regards,
Lubo

I like the idea. However I think it's good to keep the global status and to have the protocol status icons in plus. This could be confusing in one point, but we could think of a good presentation, that would allow to have the two completing each other.

I did install it and I felt very disappointed actually (I felt also very happy that we're not so bad:)) First the application was 70Mb, which is somehow *a lot* for a chat client. Then the interface doesn't look the same as on the screenshots and it's even ugly. All components have notched corners, it's may be just the Mac version, I don't know..Finally I couldn't even test the status box, because you're obliged to create a VoxOx account before creating your other accounts, where I just gave up:)

This doesn't mean at all that we could not come up with good ideas when looking on the screenshots:)

Cheers,
Yana

Yana,

Thank you very much! I absolutely trust your judgment. For what it's
worth, good ideas aren't always easy to come by and we already have a
lot of them so I'm not surprised these guys still have work to do in
order to catch up with us.

Best regards,
Lubo

Since arstechnica.com has published a review of a product similar to
SIP Communicator, it may not hurt contacting them after the 1.0
release and researching if there's any possibility to publish a
review. They currently have a Google PageRank of 7 and I often see
references to their articles in Slashdot, Linux Today, OSDir.com. (I
don't know really, it's just an idea.)

I completely agree. Please feel free to drop them a note when we are
ready with rc 1.0.

Cheers
