[sip-comm-dev] vision of sip-communicator

#1

Hi together,

in addition to a good idea who the user is, it would help us very much in our usability work if you could formulate a vision for the SIP-Communicator: what shall it be (if not now, in the future)? Perhaps you can even come up with a claim or slogan or strap line, like "the free and reliable communication tool". This may also help users to understand what the SIP-Communicator does, in addition to its features.

So long,
Jan

Hello Jan,

Sorry for the delay, I was out of town last week.

A reliable audio/video/instantmessaging tool that allows users to communicate with each other over a set of supported protocols.

Perhaps you can even come up with a claim or slogan or strap line, like "the free and reliable communication tool".

We are currently using (cf. sip-communicator.org):

SIP Communicator - Open Source VoIP and Instant Messaging

We are aware that "Open Source" is a word that would rather appeal to tech savvy users but at this point it is important that we appeal to developers in order to strengthen our contributing community.

The "reliable" part of the slogan is not there yet since the application is currently still in a very alpha state and it's a bit early to be boasting absolute reliability.

It is however one of our priorities and we are going to focus on it when the time comes. (Personally, I like a lot the Skype "It just works" slogan and hope we'll be able to claim similar reliability one day)

This may also help users to understand what the SIP-Communicator does, in addition to its features.

I agree. We'll prepare a more user friendly slogan when we get closer to the 1.0 release. It's a bit early for this now since the exact set of features for the release depends on the contributions we'd get.

Cheers
Emil
