[sip-comm-dev] Ubuntu_video bug_builds 1706/1707

#1

Hi,

tested SC with Ubuntu 8.10 updated and saw the local video
in the media tab. It looked good even though the DELL mini 9
has only a 300kpx cam. No smears for slow motion.

I then clicked on the "plug-in" tab and the video LED immediately
turned off. When I clicked again on the media tab, I saw a
still photo and no video LED shinning next to lens. Video did not
function anymore.

Regards, Earl

Hi Earl,

Could you please attach the output in the terminal or the log? It's
likely the cause which leads to issue #567 (Linux Tool>Options>Media
video preview doesn't work) but we should better look.

Thank you,
Lubo

Lubo,

I am a Linux newbie so please tell me where to find the log ?
and I will post it.

I do not call up SC in a terminal, I use the menu GUI.

If you wish, I could use a terminal to load SC, but help me a little
with the command line.

Lubo,

I tried also WIN XP build 1708 and only saw a black preview area,
but I wish to make some more tests.

Earl,

The log file on Linux should be in your home directory in the hidden
directory .sip-communicator i.e.
~/.sip-communicator/log/sip-communicator0.log. The graphical file
manager in Gnome, for example, will not display the .sip-communicator
directory by default and has to be instructed from the Preferences
dialog to display hidden files in order to reveal it. Alternatively,
one can copy the file from the terminal into a non-hidden directory
with the following line:

cp ~/.sip-communicator/log/sip-communicator0.log ~/Desktop

I hope the above helps. Please don't hesitate to ask for further assistance.

Best regards,
Lubo

Earl,

Linux and Windows use different means to capture the video so the
issue on Windows XP may or may not be the same as the one you've
discovered on Linux. Could I please bother you to attach the Windows
XP log or provide steps to reproduce the problem (in case it's
reproducible, of course)? The log on Windows XP should be located in
%APPDATA%\SIP Communicator where the value of %APPDATA% can be
discovered in Command Prompt, for example, by issuing the following
command:

echo %APPDATA%

I realize the above sounds vague but I only have Windows 7 which
stores the personal files and directories in a different hierarchy and
I cannot remember the exact path on Windows XP.

Thank you,
Lubo

Lubo,

yesterday I had network connectivity and video preview, today nothing.
Anyway I attach what I logged today.
This evening I will go back and get the other log files when it was working;
I renamed them by adding .old to the end of the file name, so they should
still be there and not have been overwritten by today's logs.
