as most of you already know each year we use the GSoC money to
organize the already traditional gathering of SIP Communicator
developers on FOSDEM (The Free and Open Source Software Developers
Europeen Meeting). In 2009 the event will take place in Brussels (as
always:) on February 6-8.
Of course, non-developers are very welcome to join us (it's just that we
won't be able to cover expense for everyone) so hope to meet as many of
you there as possible!
This year is a bit different though since we have also been allocated a
stand. We would therefore need to prepare sufficient amounts of goodies
to hand out. Posters and stickers come to mind and we could even try and
get some t-shirts.
I have already made some research on t-shirts and have found a vendor
that is willing to make them for a price of 5 EUR per unit (t-shirt
included). The question is how many shirts we'd need and what do we do
with them. After paying hotel and travel for all gsoc funded developers,
we'll still have around 2140 EUR. Emil and I were thinking of requesting
100 t-shirts and then giving them out against a contribution. Hopefully
this would make up for part of the expense but we can't be sure.
Outright selling them and giving them out for free are also options.
However, since the primary purpose of t-shirt distribution is increasing
project popularity, then selling the t-shirts is probably not going to
get us very far. Giving them out for free on the other hand is likely to
leave us out of stock quite early and hence make for an empty stand for
most of the event.
What do you all think?
Emil, I know you had something in mind for the posters, could you please
give us some details on prices?
Anyone interested in taking care of printing stickers (autocollants)?
