[sip-comm-dev] RFC: Accounts list UI enhancements

#1

Hello,

I've attached a screenshot of our current accounts list UI with some
remarks. This is actually written from a "new user" point of view.

- Ugly corners. This is probably specific to GTK.
- Lack of padding around "modify" and "remove" buttons. Due to GTK?
- The "save" button. Well, I never used it and wouldn't be able to tell
what it does without looking at the code.
- The mysterious text field. It is not obvious what it is for. Of
course, I could probably guess with the little stars if any of my
   accounts needed a password.

What do you think? Should I open one or distinct enhancement issues for
these?

Yana, I know you are involved with most of the UI work but also
overbusy. These remarks are *not* aimed at you.

Cheers,

Yup, that's actually issue #516

Possibly yes.

Both of the above are probably easy to fix. However, Yana is currently
working on the ZRTP interface and arch rework so are you interested in
giving them a try? Anyone else maybe?

Granted. Although cases where you actually don't need a password a few
and most of them are of use to expert users only (e.g. RegistrarLess SIP
accounts).

We do have rework of the account configuration form previewed as part of
issue #465.

You might want to add your thoughts there so that both of the above
observations are taken into account. You could also change the issue
title so that it better represents a redesign.

Cheers
Emil

Fixed in r4955.

The lack of padding is a GTK only problem, indeed. It's a small issue
but one would have to be careful not to break the other L&F when fixing
it.

Looks to me the only case it would be used is when changing a password
directly from the account list, but do you change your password that
often?

Are you sure it's #465?

That's the point yes.

but do you change your password that often?

Again agreed. You can also consider this one as a part of 465. (Yes,
yes, 465, I am sure  .. see below ).

Uhu, absolutely! We had that in mind when we made the entry ... I am
actually quite surprised that you couldn't read our thoughts !?!

Ah, sigh, guess I'll have to change the title and make sure that it is
actually understandable  (Done.)
