[sip-comm-dev] Report about work on RSS protocol for SC

#1

Hi,

It could be interesting for me to implement RSS without xerces, but I won't be able personally
to deal with RSS protocol before July 15 (exams and holidays ;-)).
So if it is urgent, it could be fun that's Mihai can do this !

Yours sincerely,

Jean-Albert.

Hello!
As I've already told to Emil, I'd be interested in further maintaining and
eventually porting the RSS support to the version of Xerces included in the
JRE, once I'm done with my exams

Best regards,
Mihai

Hello Jean-Albert,

I was actually looking at your implementation yesterday. You only seem to be accessing the RSS lib from RssFeedReaderInforma. I've also been looking at rome (rome.dev.java.net) and they seem to be around 300K (dependencies included).

I was therefore wondering whether it wouldn't be a better option to simply replace informa with rome. I remember you were looking at rome at one point and then decided to finally go for informa but I don't remember the reason. Was it something very important or maybe just a matter of personal preference? Do you think you could easily switch?

Cheers
Emil

Hello!
AFAIK, one issue with rome was that it was released under a license
different from the LGPL SIP is released under (I think it's APL, but I'm not
sure). On the other hand, when I discussed with Yana on this matter when
writing my proposal for GSoC, she said that APL isn't "incompatible" with
LGPL (all this legal stuff makes me dizzier than all my exams =) )

Indeed, replacing Informa with Rome would be a nice touch, as Rome also has
some features that I'm not sure they're included in Informa.

Best regards,
Mihai
