[sip-comm-dev] Q: Initiating a call from an external program

#1

Emil,

Sorry for not making myself clearer. gaim has no
support for SIP/VoIP but does allow for 'plugins' to
be developed.

I was wondering if its possible to trigger a call from
outside of sip-communicator? That is, once
sip-communicator is running, use an external program
to trigger a 'call' event, passing the necessary
parameters, sip address of destination caller etc.

Thanks in advance.

I don't really understand your question, Adam

If you are asking whether or not the sip -
communicator is compatible with other sip
applications
- it is. Personally, I have not tested it with gaim
but there should be no problems doing it.

If that was not what you were asking please explain
a bit more
Cheers

sip-communicator couldn't to do it.
I think it must look at SipXPhone. It has JNI to sipXCall and
SipXMedia library.

Thanks in advance.

Hello Adam,

Very good idea. And it would perfectly fit in the new osgi architecture.
I guess we could split that in two parts.
1) A generic simplified interface that would allow external java
programs to access sip-communicator functionalities like making and
ending calls for example.
2) A thin JNI layer that would allow native programs to use the api
defined in 1.

The new sip-communicator release is not yet finished and it would take a couple of months before we have an alpha ready, yet you could already start thinking and propose an interface so that we could discuss it and eventually have it integrated inside the sip-communicator.

Thanks for your proposition Adam!
