[sip-comm-dev] Member list in IRC server channel

#1

Hi guys,

When I connect to an IRC server, a chat window/panel/tab is created
for the communication with the IRC server and it has an empty member
list on the right. Is it always empty and if yes, do we have to waste
the space with it? The data model of this chat panel is a ChatRoom
with #isSystem() == true (I think) so it brings the question whether
other system chat rooms such as Jabber need this member list as well?

Thank you,
Lubo

Jabber chatrooms have what we call a "room roster" (a list of people in
the room), so I think you might want this feature.

In the case of IRC yes. This is the status channel and the fact that we
represent it as a standard room is a bit of a UI hack.

Not sure we have system rooms with XMPP at all. So I guess we could use
the property to start the chat room with the participant list hidden.

Could you please raise an issue in the tracker?

Hi Peter,

The IRC chatrooms also have a list of members and the member list
should really stay there. But we're talking about the UI
pseudo-chatroom which displays the communication with the IRC server.
As far as I understand Emil's e-mail and judging by the fact that
double-clicking the "talk.google.com (lubomir.marinov@gmail.com)" item
in the dialog "My chat rooms..." doesn't open a conversation panel
while doing that with "irc.freenode.net (lubomir_m@irc.freenode.net)"
does open such a panel, I think we'll have the feature correctly
enabled.

Best regards,
Lubo

Awsome. Thank you, Emil! Upon your request, I captured the essence of
this thread in https://sip-communicator.dev.java.net/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=614.
