[sip-comm-dev] MacOSX package for sipcommunicator

#1

Dear all,

I am interested in creating and maintaining a MacOSX package of SIP Communicator. This means:
- first, providing a dmg file for easy intallation,
- then, tune the GUI to have the MACOS look and feel (toolbar at the top of the screen etc.)

As SIP communicator is a JAVA application, it should run very fine on MACOS without any changes. But as creating DMG is quite easy to do, and as it is the usual distribution package on MacOS, I believe it could be a nice feature for the software.

What do developers think?

Regards,

I tried to run the older version of SIP Comm under Mac OS X and I had some unresolved problems with audio devices. Probably related to the fact that Sun nor Apple have provided an native implementation for JMF, which SIP Comm uses.

But let us hear how it's running for you, especially if you try the latest CVS version.

Hello Romain,

Pardon the delay.

I love the idea of having a MAC specific installer. We're planning on
using izPack for platform specific installation packages but having a
DMG for MAC is a far better option.

Right now there's not much running inside the sip-communicator but I
guess it's enough for beginning testing of an installation package.

- then, tune the GUI to have the MACOS look and feel (toolbar at the
top of the screen etc.)

I am not familiar with MAC as I've rarely used one. I thought that the
top bar was something handled by the OS. Isn't that the case? Or is it
only for java applications that explicit modifications are needed?

Cheers
Emil

Yes, this is enough to build a dmg package and test it.

The top bar is handled by the OS, but some information in the top bar needs some code modification. Same if you want some special MacOS look&feel. This should be integrable in the main SIP communicator source tree (there is a test to know if you run on MacOS or not).

Anyway, I'll work on that soon and keep the ML informed.

Thanks,
