[sip-comm-dev] jabber plugin

#1

Hi,
I'm new to the list and I wish to join the project. First, I'm
planning to add Jabber support for the SIP Communicator. The Smack API
from Jive Software ( http://www.jivesoftware.org/smack/ ) is an Open
Source XMPP client library which perfectly suits our needs. So I think
I will use this one. What do you think about this choice ?

Hello Guillaume,

Good to hear!

Smack seems to be shipping under an apache license so no problem from
that point of view. I'll be putting up a short documentation containing
guidelines for implementing the ProtocolProviderService. This should
give you and Pedro an easier start for the Jabber and MSN implementations!

Good luck!

Emil

Hi,

I think excellent choice. If I may point you also to Asterisk-IM project - I think it would be great to include that extended API too - so presence could be tied to softphone registration with Asterisk.

Regards,

Rob.

Hi,
Today I had a look at the Asterisk-IM and I think there is more elegant way of implementing Presence.
The way Asterisk-IM module does it nobody working with asterisk like it .
There is a problem making many connections to the asterisk manager, thats why astmanproxy exists and the same way is working the flash panel for the asterisk (one connection from the proxy and many connection to the proxy).

To implement presence it will be very easy after the first release of the new Sip-Communicator. This is The Subscribe message (hint extensions in asterisk ).
This way the implementation will be SIP and not asterisk connected.

You can look here if you haven't.
