[sip-comm-dev] IPv4 and IPv6 Dual-Stack possible?

#1

Hi community,

Thanks a lot for the IPv6 support!

From what I have experienced it works just fine.

Only one thing left to wish for :wink:
- To have support for a dual stack environment, i.e. that sip-communicator
registers both the IPv4 and the IPv6 address, and cleverly uses the
appropriate one when receiving or placing calls to other SIP users.

Any plans for this? ...SIP Communicator could be the first dual-stack Sip user
agent.

Or is this already supported, only I don't know how to make it work? I have a
openSER / Kamailio running in dual-stack in my SIP environment, and I only
succeed to register with either
the IPv4 or the IPv6 address

is there a little trick :wink: ...can I start the SIP communicator twice once with
IPv4 and IPv6 a second time only?

...
In the moment I have only IPv6 in sip-communicator running on Kubuntu 10.4
64bit, also when I start the sip-communicator with IPv4 support only:

tux@iglu:~$ sip-communicator --ipv4

after the SIP communicator is started I see:

root@iglu:/home/tux/Downloads# netstat -tapun|grep 5060
tcp6 0 0 :::5060 :::* LISTEN
10082/java
udp6 0 0 :::5060 :::*
10082/java

...here should be udp/tcp without 6 and 0.0.0.0 not "::" when it run in IPv4-
mode.

It was installed with:
dpkg -i sip-communicator_1.0-alpha3-nightly.build.2601_amd64.deb

Thanks & Best regards,
pulsar

This would be part of the upcoming ICE support which would allow both
parties to negotiate either an IPv6 or an IPv4 address for media.

As for registering both the IPv6 and IPv4 addresses with the registrar
... that would be tricky and I am not even sure it would work as
expected since many registrars would simply override the first binding
when recording the second.

What would be the point anyway?
