[sip-comm-dev] I'm new to projects like this...

#1

Hi,

I have a couple of small changes I would like to submit that fix problems I have encountered, but I don't understand the patch process. I've never worked with an open source project before, so it is rather confusing. I wasn't getting much of a response on the users list when I explained the problems.

Would someone be willing to offer some advice/orientation to how things work? Thanks.

Hi Alan,

nice to have you on board. Actually I also never created a patch for this Project, but maybe I can give you some starting points. The patch process is very easy to understand, since you are only an observer for the project you can not commit any changes you made directly to the SVN repository, thats why you need to create a patch. This is basicly is simple text file where all the changes you made are listed.

You should definitly take a look at our code convention, before you create any patch for this project. You can find it here: http://www.sip-communicator.org/index.php/Documentation/CodeConvention

and after that just take a look at: http://www.sip-communicator.org/index.php/Documentation/FAQ#patch.

If you need more help, please tell us how you connect to the repository and which IDE you use, so we can give you some more detailed information. And then just do it, write a mail to the ML as it is described in the FAQ, and nobody will blame you if you made any mistakes.

So, welcome again.
Cheers Rupert.

Hi Rupert,

Thanks, that helps. I wasn't really sure how to create a patch file, but I dug around some more and figured it out. I'll submit something soon, I hope.
