[sip-comm-dev] Hello there!

#1

I am Nicolaus Klinger, software engineer from Vienna, Austria. I am working for Austrian Research Centers and we are using the sip communicator as a middle ware tool for a big webservice-based AAL & Smart Homes project. Since we are facing the same problems as Werner Dittmann did in January 24, I subscribed. I hope anyone could help us.

Did anyone find a solution for the heavy SC crash yet?

Nicolaus,

AFAIK this problem is not solved. Just recently I had the same
crash again on a Windows XP system. This is now also listed
as issue #658 on the SC bug tracker. The log files are available
at the report.

Do you have the hs_err_pig.log files available? If so can you
provide them (or at least one)? I've not experienced such a crash
on my Linux (openSuSe) system running a decent JDK.

Which Java version do you use, including build number?

Regards,
Werner

Hello Werner,

Sorry for my late reply. I assumed that this problem is not yet solved. I am using 2 XP machines for my clients and a 3CX Sip Server running on another XP machine.

My Java Version, where the crash occurs:
java version "1.6.0_07"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_07-b06)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 10.0-b23, mixed mode, sharing)

I compared your provided hs_err.log files with mine and it seems to be the same problem (Access Violation during Direct Sound functionality). My log files are attached. They are from two different sessions.

The funny thing is, that this crash does not always occur after the first hang up. In my test environment I sometimes manage to establish 2 or 3 calls before the sip communicator crashes.

I read that there are plans to switch from jmf to fmj. Do you know how far this has been taken into consideration?

Thanks for your help!

Hey Werner, Nicolaus,

I've not experienced such a crash
on my Linux (openSuSe) system running a decent JDK.

I believe DirectSound is Windows technology and is, consequently, not
employed by SIP Communicator on Linux.

Otherwise, could I please ask you to update issue
https://sip-communicator.dev.java.net/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=658 with
steps to reproduce the problem? From Nicolaus' last mail, I guess the
problem occurs when hanging up the call. But reading the issue alone
doesn't reveal it and one has to search through the dev mailing list
in order to gather it.

Best regards,
Lubo

on my system the crashes occur at the very beginning of a call,
IIRC even during ringing but always during the first seconds
of the real call.
