[sip-comm-dev] GUI modifications commit

#1

Hi all,

For a month now we were working on some enhancements in SIP Communicator's user interface. We have now achieved some level of completeness of our modifications and the day has come to commit:)

First, I hope you like it:) This is just the first step though and there will be further improvements in the near future.

Second, I have to say that there are tons of modifications in the ui package, so there may be bugs of course and I'm counting on you to point them out.

Just for info, the last build doesn't containing the changes is 1317.

Enjoy!
Yana

I like it  This is definitely cleaner, intuitive. The "Me" panel
could allow a user to change her/his status message, image and
displayed name globally.

(phew... looks like I did better not to create an LDAP tab in the UI :P)

Second, I have to say that there are tons of modifications in the ui
package, so there may be bugs of course and I'm counting on you to point
them out.

The menus could be disabled until an element is added to them. For
example, in the last build, the view menu is empty.

Just for info, the last build doesn't containing the changes is 1317.

You meant 4407?

Cheers,

It's really neat! I love it!
Simple and intuitive, that's a great UI you created!

Second, I have to say that there are tons of modifications in the ui package, so there may be bugs of course and I'm counting on you to point them out.

The buddy icon beside the buddy name only appear when I open and then close a chat window of a specific buddy. Is it the expected behaviour?

Cheers,

Hi Yana, and all,

I have upgraded my SIP-communicator client before reading this e-mail and it was a great surprise
It is nice and clean and I appreciate these improvements.

By the way, why does we have a "File" menu, when we does not use files. Can we rename it with something more explicit like "manage" or "accounts"?

Wow, I like this, but definitely still some bugs

My initial feedback/bug reports:

Dialpad:
- After you click a number, the dialpad disappears and you have to click on the little button twice to bring it up again.
- Also, I can't click on the dial textbox without the dialpad disappearing. This may frustrate a user trying to correct something they dialed. My opinion is that the dialpad should stay up until the user either clicks the dialpad button again, places a call, or clicks on the contact list.
- If I close the SC window while the dialpad is open, the dialpad stays on the screen.
- Also, I would suggest placing a little 'X' in the top right corner of the dialpad to make it more obvious how to close it.

Contact groups: This may have been intentional, but I was initially confused by the fact that the +/- expand/collapse feature of the headings now requires a double-click.

Status:
- When you click on the status, the grey background image that come up behind the status has ugly white corners on it instead of blue or transparent. The image probably needs to be corrected.
- It would be nice to have a little arrow or something to make it more obvious that this is a menu.

Hope this helps,

Alan

Also, weird things are happening if the dialpad is open and you try to click on a menu item in the top menus.

Ok, the icon now appears when I open the chat window of the buddy.
What I initially meant however was whether it should appear at startup (i.e. display all buddy icons, even the ones of the buddy I did not speak with), but I guess it may be a bit resource-consuming at the first startup.

Yes, that was not implemented initially but it is now. I am surprised
it's still not working for you. Sure you have the last version?

Oh, seems like I broke this right after committing it. Should be ok now.

Could you please give it another try from r4434?

Ok, it now downloads some pictures at startup. However it seems some of them are not downloaded (e.g. I cannot get your great picture  After some time I only have 2 pictures in the avatarcache directory.

My bad, after a fresh rebuild and test, it works fine and quickly displays the buddy icons right after starting!

Thanks,
