[sip-comm-dev] [GSoC2010] Question on SIP-Communicator project "Call With Yahoo! Messenger"

#1

Hi,

My name is Nguyen Hoang Hai, Computer Engineering student year 3. I am an
applicant for GSoC 2010 program for SIP Communicator. I have some technical
questions regarding the "Call With Yahoo! Messenger" project so could you
please answer them for me? Firstly after browsing the web page I am still
not sure if the VoIP has been implemented for SIP Communicator as well as
the architecture used (or to be used) for it. The same question I want to
ask about Yahoo!, since the reference list does not include any information
about Yahoo! Messenger's VoIP - which I googled to be VoIM. As I knew that
audio/video data needs to be decoded before being transferred over the
Internet may I know if the codecs that SIP Communicator and Yahoo! Messenger
are using match? A last question is that could you foresee some challenging
that programmer is going to face in this project? Thank you very much.

Yours sincerely,

Nguyen Hoang Hai

We currently support calls with SIP. XMPP will be coming soon.

as well as the architecture used (or to be used) for it.

You should have a look at our protocol providers. You might want to
check out the developer documentation on sip-communicator.org

Well we were actually expecting applicants to try and determine these by
themselves.

You don't need to have it all figured out to the most minor details but
it would help a lot if in your application you show that you've done
some research and have an idea about the way telephony works with this
protocol. The same goes for MSN telephony and all other projects for
that matter.

Cheers and good luck!

Emil

P.S. You may want to direct future gsoc related queries to our gsoc
mailing list.
