[sip-comm-dev] GSoC: Previews Configuration

#1

Hey all,

I've been working on the configuration form part for the replacement
service. Here's what it looks as of now. I've attached the screenshots. Does
anyone have any suggestion/comments?
Presently, the smiley option is displayed on the main form, as it's most
likely to be used/searched by the user. The rest of the sources can be
disabled/enabled via the advanced dialog.

Thanks,
Purvesh.

I don't personally find the separation of the UI in the main form and
the advanced dialog to be simplifying the interaction in comparison to
having everything in the main form. For one, Tools > Options has
already displayed a dialog and then the dialog displays yet another
dialog - I'd rather leave this scenario to situations which really
need it (e.g. the display of the stored passwords, as Emil told me,
which displays sensitive information and needs the explicit
authorization of the user first). Besides, if there's an advanced
dialog, the main form seems too empty.

Hi,

Yes, I think you're right. I wasn't entirely convinced with the idea of
multiple dialogs myself. I'm thinking of two alternatives.
1. Putting the sources list in the same form, removing the advanced button.
Since there aren't much options in this form now, the space wouldn't look
crammed up.
OR
2. Moving the entire sources list to the Tools->Options->Advanced form.

What do you think ?

Thanks
Purvesh

IMHO, +1.

-1 because it seems too complex for me to comprehend since I have to
switch between two configuration forms (plus the Advanced tab may
preselect another configuration form in its list so there may be yet
another switch) and I'm not entirely sure how we're going to connect
the two for the user (though Eclipse seems to do it with links.)

Hi Purvesh,

I agree with Lubomir and your first suggestion about the advanced form.

A minor suggestion from me is that you could set the opaque property to false for all check boxes in order to remove the grey background.

I would also suggest that we rename the "Replacement" section "Image/Video". We're in the chat tab, so this section would contain all configurations concerning images and videos in chat windows.

Cheers,
Yana
