[sip-comm-dev] GSoC at Sip-Com - A puff piece

#1

Hi all,

after the official ending of the Google Summer of Code 2008 I went on holiday so this email is maybe a little bit late. But I feel really committed to express my gratitudes to all the people who made this GSoC possible. This GSoC wasn't only a way to get over my holidays or to make some money, this GSoC is a part of my studies, so I am very grateful, that some good guys spend their time and efforts to made this great project possible. Especially I want to thank my personal mentor Yana, who really did a great job.

Since my last semester will start soon, I think I don't have much time to help you guys developing the sip-communicator, but of course I will help you integrating my group chat stuff into the main trunk, particularly with the MSN group chat. Also if anyone have plans for implementing group chat support to another protocol I hope I can help him/her doing it, just write me an email and I 'll try to help.

I also have some plans of improvements of the GUI, I think I'll try to develop them soon, because they will help to advance the usability of the group chat. The second thing I have on my ToDo list is to try upgrading the MSN lib to the new version that is available on the sf-site, I tried this before but I had some problems with it, so if anyone else is interested in doing it I would appreciate it!

Many thanks,
Rupert

Hey Rupert,

Thanks for the nice words, and really hope you'll stick around. You've
done an impressive job while working on your project!

We'll let you know as soon as someone finds the time to work on
integrating it into trunk! In the mean time, keeping it in sync would
help us a lot, and would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers
Emil

Hi all,

I have finally found the time to integrate the MSN group chat implemented by Rupert (as part of his GSoC project), so we're now able to make MSN chat conferences!

The implementation was complete and clean, so it required very few modifications. Great job Rupert! Thanks! Of course, you now also appear on our contributors page:)

The hard part was to adapt the UI to handle correctly the transformation of a single chat to a group chat and to enhance in general the group chat UI, so I've worked a lot in this direction. Still there's a lot more to do, but it's coming.

I continue with the integration of ICQ and Yahoo, so Rupert don't lose hope, they're coming soon:))

Cheers,
Yana

Hi again,

we have now also the ICQ and Yahoo group chat implementations. Thanks again Rupert! You have done a very good job!

We have still some pending improvements on the group chat user interface, but they'll be noted on our issue tracker and will be assigned the appropriate priority for rc-1.

Cheers,
Yana
