[sip-comm-dev] FOSDEM stand demos

#1

Hey folks,

There has been mention of our stand demos once or twice so it's probably
high time we put something on paper. Here's what we currently have.

A. Platform

1. Router/Switch.
There will be no wired access on FOSDEM. I wouldn't like us to rely
on Wi-Fi only as there will be many people there. We'll be heavily
relying on connectivity for our demos so I'll be bringing a wireless
router with 4 LAN ports. Our demos machines will thus be able to connect
via ethernet.

2. We may still need (volunteers please speak up):
2.1. Someone to bring an extra switch in case the 4 ports on my
router turn out to be insufficient.
2.2. A volunteer that would like to (pre)setup a laptop that we
could use as a connectivity router. We would use it to relay traffic
from our ethernet network to the Internet through the wireless access on
FOSDEM.
    2.3. Electricity cables.
One could never have too many of those. It would be great if
everyone bringing a laptop also brought an extension cord with 3 or 4
sockets. Non-Europeans, don't forget to bring power adapters.
    3.3. Kensington security cables
Again, anyone bringing a laptop should try and bring one of those.
If you could bring more than one then that would be great.

B. Demos.

I am currently aware of the following being prepared:

1. Audio/Video + ZRTP demo
Damian and Lubomir are working on a simple demo that will be displaying
an audio video conversation between 2 SIP Communicator clients. They
would be bringing a laptop each and, depending on the progress of our
work on video, one would be running a Mac OS X and the other a Linux or
a Windows. In addition to video, we'll try to make sure that the laptops
also display the SC contact list and possibly an IM conversation

2. Android port demo
Cristina will be bringing a laptop that will be running a demo of the
sc-android project.

We only have a single table but if it turns out that we have sufficient
space, then we could possibly host a:

3. ZFone/SC/Twinkle interop demo. If we have the possibility to run this
demo then I can provide one of the machines that are necessary. If
anyone else can provide the other one then please speak up.

C. Goodies

We so far have:

1. Stickers - A bit less than 2500 SIP Communicator stickers
2. Posters - A bit less than 200 SIP Communicator posters

I think these should be enough but if anyone wants to bring something
else then please let us know.

Thoughts, anyone?

Cheers
Emil

FOSDEM.

I've already used my laptop as such in install-parties. But you said you
would bring a wireless router, no chance to have it serve as wireless
gateway? (openwrt?)

    2.3. Electricity cables.
One could never have too many of those. It would be great if
everyone bringing a laptop also brought an extension cord with 3 or 4
sockets. Non-Europeans, don't forget to bring power adapters.

Actually most of the time power bricks can do both 110/230V. You "just"
have to find the proper cord.

3. ZFone/SC/Twinkle interop demo. If we have the possibility to run this
demo then I can provide one of the machines that are necessary. If
anyone else can provide the other one then please speak up.

I can provide a laptop under Linux.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to see some/most of you there.

The one I am bringing is not a WRT and unfortunately cannot operate as a
Wi-Fi client. If someone has a router that can do this then you are
welcome to bring it along. Make sure you give them a try at home though.

Exactly. Here's an example of a US-EUR power adapter.

Hi,

I will be comming too and I can bring a 5-port switch, few power cables, and
maybe even multifunction wifi AP/router (no need to use laptop as a router).

Hi people,

I have some not so good news, I will not be able to bring the AP/router I
mentioned earlier so there will be need for the laptop to do the routing. I
am sorry for the inconvenience.

I will bring:
2 extension cords,
2 ethernet cables,
5-port switch..

Thanks for the note Martin. Can everyone also confirm what he will bring? So that I can check with Emil tomorrow what's missing and take it with us.

See you at the FOSDEM
