I don't know whether it's possible to recognize the following but

I'm not sure which actually advertise and which don't but I figured it would be a good idea to have everything in place regardless. So if they do advertise then everything should work.

I did all of my tests with Pidgin and SIP Communicator. I'll start testing individual clients after I add support for SIP if you would like.

Do you have already a rough idea, which of these clients are
advertising the user agent? I mean, I know it's a long list, but do we
know for sure for some of them, which you have already seen in your
tests?

Oh, what I meant was the OperationSet I designed returns a single String with the client name for all protocols. I'm adding images and support for all the clients listed. Provided that the clients advertise on the protocol that is being used, then hopefully everything will work for most.

Like you said this certainly will not work for all, like I know for a fact that Pidgin does not advertise itself as Pidgin when using IRC. I definitely agree the testing is needed for all the clients I'm adding. I'll do that right after SIP.

I would just like to take a second and say thanks for the help and support guys! I've had a lot of fun working with you guys this summer, and I know I've learned A LOT about how open source programs and large programs are created, maintained, and added to while still remaining as extensible as possible. I'm off to bed for now (it's 4 AM here :P) Cheers!

Hmm, I am a bit cinfused then. How exactly are we going to recognize
them provided we don't know if and, more importantly how, they
advertise themselves? Just grepping for a form of their name in a
dedicated field may work for some clents and protocols but certainly
not for all.

In other words we should definitley do the testing. Brett, don't
hesitate to recruit helping hands on this list and arrange testing
sessions in case you are missing some of the agents.

Good luck!
Emil

Oh, one more quick thing, the OperationSet for each protocol does its best to make the String returned be as pertinent and easy to read as possible, for example the IRC and Jabber implementations both remove protocol information and other extraneous information that any listeners wouldn't be interested in.

Hahaha, yeah, that'll cost me a couple of beers!

Maybe that's also a good time to discuss the Android port, and hooking up SC with a software provisioning system. You might have seen we've open sourced the system as Apache ACE, still in early incubation.

Greetings, Marcel
