[sip-comm-dev] ContactListPanel.java.orig

#1

Dear SIP Communicators,

Will anyone in the world feel like something's been lost if I "svn
delete" src/net/java/sip/communicator/impl/gui/main/contactlist/ContactListPanel.java.orig?
I guess it won't be as bad as Irréversible.

Thanks,
Lubo

Hi Lubo,

I think that you could delete it (If you didn't do it already). If
someone is interested he/she could always restore it from svn.

Cheers,
Yana

Hey Yana,

Thank you!

I did delete it in r4600 after waiting a few days for interested
parties to declare it necessary.

Best regards,
Lubo

suggestion_network problem + re-registration + dis-activate account

Hi Emil, hi All,

1) the accounts window has two buttons: Settings and Remove.
I would like to see either

* a third button: Re-register
or
* automatic re-registration for all non functioning accounts every minute
or
* both

If the server is down, or if Inet connection has problems a window pops up
and allows only 2 choices: either try again or cancel. Should the problem
persist for 15 or 30 minutes before correction, it means the pop-up window
will appear thousands of times - or more likely you press cancel. If you press
cancel, then that server is finished forever or until SC is quit and reloaded.

I see no reason to bother the user with re-connections; this should be automatic.
It would be nice to have a pop-up saying server XY has disconnected so that
the user is informed that there is a problem, maybe a network cable has pulled
out of the socket or power plug for router has pulled out, ISP problems, etc.

2- I would like to see in each account setting, a check box with the name
active, for example. If this box does not have a check mark, then this account
is disabled and does not appear in the main window.

It is necessary to be able to disable an account without removing it completely
from account settings. When clicking the box to activate a disabled account
the registration should happen either automatically or be able to click the
(now non existent) re-register button.
This could be as simple as introducing a new tag in the contactlist.xml file such
as <disabled> </disabled> so that this account "disappears" except in account
settings, where it can be enabled again.

Earl,

Thank you for the feedback!

Because I'm in support of your suggestion #1, I took the time to enter
it as issue #464 (Auto-reconnect (after disconnect not triggered by
the user)) through sip-communicator.org's Development/Bugs and Issues
in order to make it easier to track and schedule for a particular
milestone.

With respect to suggestion #2, please feel free to do the same so that
the interested developers can tack and schedule it as well.

We'll wholeheartedly welcome contributions from your implementing
these features.

Regards,
Lubo

Lubo,

Before entering an issue, I like to float any ideas and wait for feedback in case the
idea should be modified a bit or maybe it has an impact that I as a non programmer
did not understand.

I am a tester / observer and like to take each nightly for a test drive, and if I have
any comments or suggestions, I will make them on this list. In fact, I have more
suggestions and a strange bug to report soon.

I will soon add my second suggestion to the issue tracker as as enhancement.

Regards, Earl

Hey Earl,

I believe that Lubo simply meant to encourage you to move on with your
issues and add them to the issue tracker.

As you point out, you are indeed expected to first report them here and
get it clear that they are indeed problems, as per the instructions in
the "File an issue" section on our "Bugs and Issues" page.

http://www.sip-communicator.org/index.php/Development/BugsAndIssues

Btw your second issue is also on trac now so you don't have to worry
about it any more ... unless you want to contribute a patch of course

Cheers
Emil
