[sip-comm-dev] Apple Java Extension

#1

Hi devs,

Yuvi Masory pointed me to an updated version of the AppleJavaExtension he made (mail below), which supports functionalities of Java 5 [1]. Do you have interest in using it instead of the current one?

[1] http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/documentation/Java/Reference/1.5.0/appledoc/api/

···

Begin forwarded message:

Apple's AppleJavaExtensions.jar does not come with source code, so it can present problems combining with open source software. Also, it only supports their Java 4 extensions, and new functions have been introduced for Java 5.
Last night I get fed up with it so I made my own Java extensions jar and posted it on SourceForge. You can find it here if it is useful to you:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/javaextensions/

Best,
Yuvi

This would be very nice indeed. I've been hearing complaints from Snow
Leopard users saying that their dock icon doesn't jump any more, so this
should fix it.

Now all we need is a volunteer who would send a patch for the switch :slight_smile:

Hi,

I've switched the AppleJavaExtensions.jar with OrangeExtensions.jar [1], it seems to work fine on Snow Leopard. Can someone test on leopard ?

Hi,

the jumping icon is done by using jdic-misc from their trunk/incubator.

Here is the actual code:

import com.apple.cocoa.application.*;
import com.apple.cocoa.foundation.*;
import com.apple.eawt.*;

NSApplication app = NSApplication.sharedApplication();
    int id = app.requestUserAttention(
        NSApplication.UserAttentionRequestCritical);

I don't see any of this classes neither in the new lib, neither in the
old one. I'm not sure where the actual problem is.

OK, scratch that. It appears I only had the jumping doc icon when it

things work on Leopard.

Ok good. As there are no regressions, I guess we stick to OrangeExtensions? At least it solves the license issues. On the feature side, I could not find much details on what's new in the java apple extensions between java 1.4 and 1.5.

Hi,

I think there is a problem with the extension, which currently
prevents building debian packages as the build machine uses java 1.5.
It seems there are classes in the extension which are compiled for
java6.

    [javac] /home/sip-communicator/sip-communicator/sip-communicator-nightly/src/net/java/sip/communicator/impl/browserlauncher/BrowserLauncherImpl.java:47:

    [javac] Please remove or make sure it appears in the correct

Hi,

I've updated OrangeExtensions.jar (recompiled with javac 1.5). Let me know if it works for you.
It is strange because the MacOSX package builder also uses java 1.5, but did not complain about these version mismatches.

it was : OrangeExtensions.jar:OrangeExtensions/com/apple.....

Hi again,

For some reasons cruisecontrol fails with this updated version. I've reverted back to the previous one, I'll have a further look at that tomorrow or on Sunday.

Hi,

I've updated OrangeExtensions.jar (recompiled with javac 1.5). Let me know if it works for you.
It is strange because the MacOSX package builder also uses java 1.5, but did not complain about these version mismatches.

Hi,

I think there is a problem with the extension, which currently
prevents building debian packages as the build machine uses java 1.5.
It seems there are classes in the extension which are compiled for
java6.

[javac] /home/sip-communicator/sip-communicator/sip-communicator-nightly/src/net/java/sip/communicator/impl/browserlauncher/BrowserLauncherImpl.java:47:
cannot access com.apple.eio.FileManager
[javac] bad class file:
/home/sip-communicator/sip-communicator/sip-communicator-nightly/lib/os-specific/mac/OrangeExtensions.jar(com/apple/eio/FileManager.class)
[javac] class file has wrong version 50.0, should be 49.0
[javac] Please remove or make sure it appears in the correct
subdirectory of the classpath.
[javac] FileManager.openURL(url);

it seems to work fine on Snow Leopard. Can someone test on leopard ?

I have leopard an my dock icon doesn't seem to be jumping any more when
a message arrives. I don't think this is Leopard specific though because
the situation on Yana's SL seems to be the same.

It used to work on Leopard with the previous lib (although not SL).

OK, scratch that. It appears I only had the jumping doc icon when it
caused a new window to open and that's still the case. So I confirm
things work on Leopard.

Ok good. As there are no regressions, I guess we stick to OrangeExtensions? At least it solves the license issues. On the feature side, I could not find much details on what's new in the java apple extensions between java 1.4 and 1.5.
