Run the code on a server and access it externally

I want to run the code on a server by backend support from jitsi and access it externally by opening the server’s external IP adress on a browser.

I downloaded the source code of jitsi meet from the github repository and made it run on my localhost. I was able to access the app on the browser by opening localhost:8080. Then I uploaded the code on a server (Google Compute Engine) and tried to run it by the command ‘make dev’ after ‘npm install’ and ‘make’ as the same way I did at my localhost. I got the same output saying ‘Compiled successfully’ but I cannot open it by the browser by opening http://THE_SERVER’S_EXTERNAL_IP:8080. I of course added

host: ‘’

to the devServer parameters in webpack.config.js to allow external access, and it seems successfully reflected.

the standard output:

:information_source: 「wds」: Project is running at
:information_source: 「wds」: webpack output is served from /libs/
:information_source: 「wds」: Content not from webpack is served from /home/yoshi/jitsi-meet
:information_source: 「wdm」: Compiled successfully.

the browser says:

This page isn’t working
THE_SERVER’S_EXTERNAL_IP didn’t send any data

I then checked if webpack and 8080 port of the server works using a test js script like just

and it worked fine. (I was able to access the page with the alert by opening http://THE_SERVER’S_EXTERNAL_IP:8080 on the browser.

I just want to deploy the code on a server using backend infrastructure supported by jitsi (using and access it externally by opening its global ip adress on a browser. Possibly do I need another webserver?
I do not want to embed iframe because I want to make a bit change of the UI in future, and not to want to construct the backend infrastructure myself.

I would greatly appreciate it if you could give me some feedback or solution for this problem. Thank you!

make dev is using webpack dev server and is used only for local development(localhost) and cannot be used environment such us The web pack dev server does not work with environments that are configured to serve the content through cdn, which is the case for

Thank you for your reply. So how can I change the UI without hosting my own Jitsi-meet server?

You have to open using https not http i.e., https://THE_SERVER’S_EXTERNAL_IP:8080, because the code is running at

I was able to open it! Thank you!

I am able to open jitsi in browser using external ip, but when i try to add participants, its asking me phone number with country code, if i try to add its giving “Failed to add participants”, can someone help me in solving this error, and where do i set the password for the meeting?
