Proper way to install jitsi meet completely

I want to install jitsi-meet on ubuntu 18. After seeing few installation guides, I am confused what to do. Can someone please make the steps easier to understand and follow?

I decided to follow this tutorial https://www.howtoforge.com/tutorial/how-to-create-your-own-video-conference-using-jitsi-meet-on-ubuntu-1804 but then I found following and got confused.

https://www.adamhyde.net/setting-up-jitsi-letsencrypt-cert-and-desktop-sharing

But it needs some clarifications. For example: conference.[your jitsi domain]
auth.[your jitsi domain]
focus.[your jitsi domain]
jitsi-videobridge.[your jitsi domain]

Secondly the tutorial is editing /etc/prosody/conf.d/[YOUR JITSI DOMAIN].cfg.lua whereas the official docs edit conf.avail file and then link to conf.d file.

and other things. Confusion confusion.

Where do I have to setup these domains? DO I have create them in DNS as well? Do I have to generate ssl for all of them? It will make it whole lot easier.

You need one DNS domain for your deployment. Install jitsi-meet using the official guide https://jitsi.org/qi, the installation will ask you for this DNS domain.
Choose self-signed certificate when asked and later run the let’s encrypt script and this is everything.

I have installed it successfully. I also configured it to only allow authenticated users by following steps here Easiest way to secure jitsi meet? It worked.

However, it suggests to make a change which I was not able to do. When I run this command, it says, “no such file or directory”
sudo cat “org.jitsi.jicofo.auth.URL=XMPP:YOUR-SERVER-HOSTNAME” >> /etc/jitsi/jicofo/sip-communicator.properties

One more thing. When I installed jigasi, it asked me for sip username and password. I did not know what to put there so I just typed someusername@mydomain.com and a password. What it is for by the way? Where it will be of use?

Is there anything like admin? I mean managing users, permissions etc etc on the server. In other words having control. What is the point in self hosting when I cannot control everything on my server?

The service is for if someone does not have internet access or poor quality access, so he can call into the session.

How do we initiate the service?

You need a sip provider, like VOIP

For me here! I wanted to lock it down. But I am sure that you can implement that. I would send an email to support or ask the community. I have seen topics where they have integrated their infrastructure with LDAP or AD. But that is another subject.

@ugintl you probably want to do echo "org.jitsi.jicofo" >> ... not cat

echo worked, but what is it for by the way?

When I sudo nano to /etc/jitsi/jicofo/sip-communicator.properties I only see “org.jitsi.jicofo.auth.URL=XMPP:YOUR-SERVER-HOSTNAME”

This is to instruct jicofo which is the domain that is used for authenticated connections.

Seems like there is a mistake and should say echo instead of cat but I am not sure
