No GSoC This Year!

#1

Seems that we didn't make it this year. There's going to be an info
session on #gsoc at some point so we'll try to know more on why.

In the mean time, we'd like to thank Google for the five years during
which they've accepted us, and for all the code that is part of Jitsi
today thanks to them!

Thank you, Google!

So, having said all this,

Everyone, there are a bunch of great Jitsi project here:

http://gsoc.jitsi.org

Anyone interested in working on them out of pure old-fashioned FLOSS
love?

The XSF was accepted, so feel free to copy some of your XMPP-related
projects here: http://wiki.xmpp.org/web/Summer_of_Code_2012

Hey this would be awesome!

We'll copy the ones that are purely XMPP related as well as a couple
that would be of use to the XMPP community. I'll let you know when ready
so that you could review them.

Thanks a lot Peter! This is very generous!

Emil

P.S. Is there a mailing list for XSF mentors?

Hey all. Today was the info session with details as to why projects
were rejected for GSoC participation this year. For those who are
interested here's our part:

[16:54] kblin: !nextinline
[16:54] gsocbot: kblin: Next in line is jitsi_emcho with notice 'jitsi
http://jitsi.org/index.php/Development/GSoC'
[16:54] carols: hi jitsi folks
[16:54] jitsi_yana was granted voice by kblin.
[16:54] You were granted voice by kblin.
[16:54] jitsi_emcho: hey carols
[16:54] jitsi_emcho: thanks for the info session!
[16:55] jitsi_yana: hey carols
[16:55] carols: boy, i am doing this a lot today.
[16:55] carols: we loved your ideas page
[16:55] carols: and your application.
[16:55] jitsi_emcho: thanks!
[16:55] carols: and you have been great in the past.
[16:56] carols: i'm sorry, this really isn't going to be helpful, but
we really just needed space for new orgs this year
[16:56] jitsi_emcho: we understand :).
[16:56] carols: we really appreciate your participation in the past.
[16:57] jitsi_emcho: should we maybe wait one extra year or is it ok
to apply again next year?
[16:57] carols: please do try again next year with the same strong
ideas page and application.
[16:57] carols: it's fine to try again next year.
[16:57] jitsi_emcho: ok will definitely do!
[16:57] carols: this was a tough call.
[16:57] carols: as i said, every rejection breaks my heart.
[16:57] jitsi_emcho: thanks a lot for the feedback then! it feels
better to know we didn't do anything wrong!
[16:58] carols: please have a great summer anyway
[16:58] jitsi_emcho: Have a great summer! and good luck with the project!
[16:58] carols: thanks

So ... seems like we'll just try again next year.
In the mean time, thank again to the XMPP Standards Foundation for
taking us under their umbrella!

Cheers,
Emil
