[jitsi-users] Wrong password for jit.si account

#1

Hi all,

I created, some times ago, an XMPP account with "jit.si".

Now, after accidentally deleting the entry in jitsi, I'm
trying to re-add the account.

Unfortunately the server report "wrong password", which,
albeit strange (I use a password manager) it could be true.

Any idea on how to change/reset the password of the account?

Thanks a lot in advance,

bye,

Hi again,

to be more precise, the returned error is:

Authentication failed for piergiorgio.sartor@jit.si (Jabber).
The password you entered is not valid.

I noticed that also with a non-existing account the error
is the same.

Could it be I'm missing something in the login name?

Thanks,

bye

Hi all again,

sorry if I insist, but how (or who) can reset/change/confirm
(or whatever else) the password for jit.si account?

At the moment I "recovered" the connectivity using a backup
copy of the ".jitsi" folder.
Nevertheless, the password there is protected by jitsi
password manager and I've to idea on how to check if
that password is the same, or not, I've stored in the other
password manager.

So, to make it short, either there should be a way to
reset/change the jit.si password or there should be a
way to get the password (plain text) from the jitsi
password manager database.

In general, just in case, how is one supposed to change
the jit.si password?

Thanks,

Hi,

you can check your password in configurations
Security->Passwords->Saved Passwords.
I think that currently there is no way to reset your password, others
may correct me if I'm wrong. Mind that jit.si is like a test launch,
just to give users easy account creating and making audio/video calls,
its not official service and developing jitsi is our main goal :).

Hi Damian,

thanks for the hint, I was able to get the password
and copy it to the other password manager.
It seems I generated a second time the password, so
the one stored in jitsi was different from the one
in the password manager.

I understand jit.si is sort of "expertimental", it
would be anyway nice to have a bit more control over
the accounts.

Thanks again,

Hey PG,

Hi Damian,

I understand jit.si is sort of "expertimental", it

the accounts.

"Experimental" is not the right word. We use stable software there.

However, I agree it could be more user-friendly.

If someone knows of available openfire plugins that allow changing
passwords via the web - then we'd love to hear about them.

Cheers,
Emil
