[jitsi-users] Windows - Jitsi nightly updates

#1

Hey,

I have Jitsi build 2.5.5072 installed on Windows, and I'd like to
update it to a more recent nightly version. Going to the main menu
"Help => Check for updates" tells me that jitsi is up to date. But
according to the nightly repository the latest version at the time of
this writing is 2.5.5232. Can someone please tell me how to set Jitsi
to use the nightly updates channel on Windows?

Thanks

I also prefer the nightly build!

Download stable: https://jitsi.org/Main/Download
then:
If you are using our stable build line, you can switch to nightly builds
using the following provisioning URLs:
- for Windows:
https://download.jitsi.org/jitsi/nightly/provisioning-windows.properties
- for Mac OS X:
https://download.jitsi.org/jitsi/nightly/provisioning-mac.properties

Yeah well I'm aware of the "provisioning" URL's.
The thing is I don't know what to do with them.
Am I supposed to copy/paste them somewhere?

Lyubomir

I found the following works as far as provisioning goes according to the SIPWise documentation
Replace ### with either your IP address of the proxy server or your FQDN of your proxy server.

https://###/jitsi?user=${username}&pass=${password}&uuid=${uuid}

Thanks, I have managed to trigger an update by going to options =>
advanced => property editor and setting the
"net.java.sip.communicator.UPDATE_LINK" property to
"https://download.jitsi.org/jitsi/nightly/windows/versionupdate.properties".
Still a rather cryptic procedure.

By the way, does the update routine have any extra security built in?
Like checking the file signature after downloading it and before
executing it?

That's why I use the provisioning tab...

True but that's unlikely to be of interest to many users so exposing it further would, above all, add complexity for average users.

By the way, does the update routine have any extra security built in?

There's currently the same https cert validation as the one your browser does the first time you download Jitsi. Adding a second validation in Jitsi itself sounds like a good idea though.
