[jitsi-users] webcam by Jitsi only "occasionally" recognized using Ubuntu 12.04.2

#1

Dear Jitsi-users,
I set up dual boot on my older Lenovo Thinkpad Z61m (WinXP SP3 and
Ubuntu 12.04.2) with the aim to use only Ubuntu, especially with Jitsi.

However, Jitsi does not recognize the integrated webcam ("no device"),
the latest nightly build of Jitsi is used.
Another program (Cheese) recognizes the webcam (but bad quality)

But after installing and turning on Skype (Skype recognized camera
instantly under dev/video0) the camera appears also in Jitsi
(..dev/video0), the appearance of the webcam in Jitsi depends on the
prior Skype turning on. Turning on Jitsi without prior turning on of
Skype gives no webcam.

Comparing with WinXP the quality of the camera is not very good in Jitsi
(Ubuntu): dark and flickering, sometimes freezing (especially after
trying videocalls)
Please find below the output of lsusb and v4l2-ctl --all

As I want to use Jitsi only (and deinstall Skype) I am asking for advice
to make the webcam running instantly with better quality in Jitsi (Ubuntu)

Any help is highly appreciated!

kind regards, MS
