[jitsi-users] "We are unable to access your camera . . ."

#1

jitsi is unable to access my Logitech C270 USB Webcam camera. Audio is fine.

It is correctly identified in settings as: UVC Camera (046d:0825)

Light turns on but then a message pops up: "We are unable to access
your camera . . ."

No, it is not muted.

It works fine on cheese and hangouts but would rather use jitsi which
has desktop sharing.

Is there any way to get the camera working?

OS: Devuan beta
Browser: Chromium (latest version) Iceweasel: failed (still using 38.3.0)

Thanks,

golinux

Anyone? I continue to search and archwiki gives this Logitech webcam
a green light. I have tried several usb ports. It works with other
apps. Why is the camera inaccessible on https://meet.jit.si/ ?

This from the kern.log:

Hi golinux,

In IRC you mentioned that the camera works fine with Chrome/ium+hangouts and FF+meet.jit.si <http://meet.jit.si/>, so the camera is working fine and, most likely, we have a bug in our code that’s preventing you from using Chrome/ium with meet.jit.si <http://meet.jit.si/> :frowning: Sorry for that.

Could you please share your JS console logs with us? Just open the JS console and then right click on the console and select the “Save as..” menu item.

Also, could you please download the peerconnection updates and stats data from “chrome://webrtc-internals/ <chrome://webrtc-internals/>“ and share that too?

Thanks!

Best,
George

Hi George,

Dang. I had written a rather complex response and I have no idea
where it went. Too tired to put it all together again.

I have attached some logs. If they are not the ones you need, I can
try again. Also included a screenie showing that the camera is
correctly identified and running - light is on - but just a black
screen. This on chromium Version 53.0.2785.143 Built on 8.6, running
on Devuan (Debian).

Let me know if you need anything else. Would be great to get this figured out.

Onward!

Thanks to George's help on #jitsi, I now know why the camera wasn't
working. Please see this chromium bug that is closed as wontfix. :frowning:
Would it be possible to correct this deficiency within jitsi code?

https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=399939#c22

George pointed out that it's possible to get around the bug by
appending this to a meet.jit.si url: #config.resolution=360 It
worked at the lower resolution!

In the meantime, I downloaded FF 45.4.0 from Mozilla, unzipped it in ~
and am running it from there. meet.jit.si works perfectly at the
proper resolution. The downside to that is that I have to close all
iceweasel windows to use it and that is a bit of a pain to reorganize
with 4 desktops.

Thanks again, George.

Can you inspect element / console for errors and also open another tab with
chrome://webrtc-internals
Check if you are correctly receiving video stream to the browser.
