[jitsi-users] Voicemail MWI

#1

Hello,

I just recently installed Jitsi and had a question on the voicemail settings. I've researched and read how MWI works for the purposes of voicemail check and need some clarification.

First, in the SIP account settings, what are Voicemail Subscription URI and Voicemail check URI? I can't seem to find documentation on how they're used or what format the configuration should be?

Secondly, jitsi has a check voicemail button when you have a message waiting, which (based on past messages) dials the Message-Account from the RFC 3842 MWI sent. I understand the reasoning behind this, but I've read through RFC 3842, and Message-Account is used to define what account the message is for and not really what to call for voicemail?

So, if Message-Account is ALWAYS used, what is the Voicemail check URI used for? Is it possible to override this so I can get jitsi to dial *97 (as per my providers configuration for checking voicemail) instead of the account - which in my case just rings busy?

How to configure the voicemail on Jitsi
#2

Hi,

Hello,

I just recently installed Jitsi and had a question on the voicemail
settings. I’ve researched and read how MWI works for the purposes of
voicemail check and need some clarification.

First, in the SIP account settings, what are Voicemail Subscription URI and
Voicemail check URI? I can’t seem to find documentation on how they’re used
or what format the configuration should be?

Secondly, jitsi has a check voicemail button when you have a message
waiting, which (based on past messages) dials the Message-Account from the
RFC 3842 MWI sent. I understand the reasoning behind this, but I’ve read
through RFC 3842, and Message-Account is used to define what account the
message is for and not really what to call for voicemail?

Yes, the URI to reach the account, this is how we use it. This is not
explicitly defined in the RFC. We assume that if the server is sending
something it must be the correct one, otherwise check-URI is the
default value if message account is missing. This value can be
controlled in asterisk(vmexten=*97), we have also tested this with
ippi accounts. Maybe it make sense to make this value override the one
coming from server.

That's great... for Asterisk (or other PBX) users, but for those that are just using a simple SIP account without that configurability, it would be nice to have an override. Minor issue for me, but definitely would be nice!
