[jitsi-users] Videobridge query

#1

Hi,

I need to know if there is a cap on the number of participants in jitsi
videobridge. Also, how can I reduce the FPS/video resolution of non-active
participants in a video conference.

Regards,
Owais

Hi,

videobridge.

Do you mean participants in one conference or participants in different conferences on the same bridge? This makes a big difference, since the required resources for a conference grows with the number of participants.

For both questions: there isn't a strict limit, but obviously things will stop working at some point. Where that point is depends on different factors: are you using last-n? Are you using simulcast? How many of your participants are sending video (or audio)?

See here[1] for an evaluation from late 2014. Note that this doesn't take into account simulcast[0] or last-n[2], which can both increase the limit significantly (at least for bigger conferences).

Also, how can I reduce the FPS/video resolution of
non-active participants in a video conference.

You may want to look into simulcast[0].

Regards,
Boris

I anticipate about 100 conferences, 10 participants each (per server).

Also, can I have multiple instances of jitsi videobridge in "federation"?
Meaning, can there be conference rooms spawning multiple physical servers?

Not right now. You can load-balance on a per-conference basis, however.

Jicofo can select from a list of jitsi-videobridge instances. See here:

Great. Can jitsi videobridge be integrated with opensips?
