[jitsi-users] Trouble with window size

#1

I just switched to 2.5.5298 but I've been having the same problem in all 2.5.

Both in Windows 7, Gnome 3 on Debian 6, and XFCE on Fedora 20, my call window randomly resizes and repositions itself to its starting size and position during calls.

I don't really see a pattern so I don't think I can reproduce it. Depending on the day, it may happen 5 times in a row over 30 seconds or not at all in a three hour call.

Has anyone else experienced this?

#2

Since my last message about this didn't get any attention I made some effort myself to try to advance towards solving the problem.

** The problem:*

I sometimes videoconf with my girl and we watch stuff "together" online. In those cases, I usually make the call frame smaller and position it on a corner of the screen so I can put another window with a video or whatever beside it.

In between 1~30 seconds from when I do my resize, call window will resize itself automagically to its original size and move back to its original pos, messing up my careful set up and making it impossible to watch w/e while I still see her.

** My guess:*

There's a function in net.java.sip.communicator.impl.gui.main.call.CallPanel called ensureSize() which is my main suspect. It is called from another function similarly named maybeEnsureSize().

From what I understand maybeEnsureSize() waits for VideoEvents which contain information about video size and when one of those arrives from somewhere (as I understand, my girl's instance of Jitsi), my call panel tries and changes size to fit the "new" video size.

But the new video size is usually the same as the old video size which I had already overrided because it didn't fit my interests.

** My humble request

*Would any dev or anyone with better understanding of the code confirm any of this, please?
I just want to be able to watch movies again with the woman I care for using the open source videoconferencing software I've come to love.

** Versions and usual reporting stuff*

I'm currently running Jitsi 2.5.5302 but I've been experiencing this problem in, I believe, all the 2.5.x
My video config goes like this:
Codification: VP8
Resolution: 320x200
RTP Threshold: 128
Bitrate: 256

I run Jitsi on JVM 1.7 over Fedora 20 but I've seen this happen in Windows too.

Warm greetings to everyone making and using jitsi.

It looks like setting a fixed resolution on the other end (instead of Auto) heavily decreases the frequency of random size chaging. I still think this is a bug but since my mails are not getting any answers I'll just let it go and hope for someone to fix it in the future.

Hey Jacobo,

It looks like setting a fixed resolution on the other end (instead of Auto)
heavily decreases the frequency of random size chaging.

Hmmm ... that's weird. We do no bandwidth adjustment in Jitsi.

I still think this
is a bug but since my mails are not getting any answers I'll just let it go
and hope for someone to fix it in the future.

It certainly does sound like something abnormal. You shouldn't
interpret silence as people disagreeing with you. It just means that
none of the people who read the mail have a quick fix for you, and
none of the people who could dive into this have the possibility to do
so right now. Feel free to open an issue, but this won't change
anything about the time that people have on their hands :frowning:

I understand that. Thank you for your answer!

And if it's okay to file a report for it I will do so ASAP.
