[jitsi-users] Toggling video on and off is not workign properly

#1

Hi all,

When you toggle your camera on and off, you will not be able to see the other person. Any suggestions how to fix this one?

to reproduce:

go to meet.jit.si <http://meet.jit.si/>
create a room
have tow people in it
have camera on for both

observation 1: local display is off for both users.

toggle camera on and off for one user

The person who toggled his/her camera off then on, will only see himself/her self on local view and other view. The other person sees both streams properly.

It is a reference display issue. If you can give me a quick hint where to fix it fast, I would appreciate it. When fixed, we will provide the fix to github too.

Thanks,
Osama

Hi Osama,

We are aware of some issues with video muting and we are working on them.
It's a complicated issue because we want 2 things:

1. We want the camera light to turn off so that our users are sure that the
camera is muted and so that we don't waste any bandwidth (when you call
stream.mute(), black frames at low bitrate are still being sent). We do
that by completely disposing the camera stream.
2. We want the muting/unmuting to appear as a local operation, i.e. we
don't want to initiate an offer/answer in every receiver when a sender
mutes his/her camera which means that we need to use the same
ssrcs/ssrc-groups when the video stream is unmuted...

In the meantime, does https://beta.meet.jit.si/ work better for you? There
might be some fixes there that haven't made it to production yet.

Hope this helps.

Best,
George

Thanks George. We will test Beta. Is beta based on latest code on github?

You're welcome. Yes, that's correct, beta is running bleeding edge versions
of the jitsi suite.

One last test update, when I tested it, it worked pretty well on Beta. However, I had a problem when I tried to test it with screen sharing. What happened, is that the bridge went down. So toggling the camera on and off worked well and the green light of the camera went off and on. However, the moment I screen shared, the bridge went down.

With this fix, do we need a birdge update or is it only jitsi-meet?

Thanks,
Osama

Hi Osama,

That specific fix is jitsi-meet only, but.. if you update jitsi-meet and
you're very far behind in jvb versions.. there might be other things that
are broken. Unfortunately, in general, we don't have a good way to say with
confidence this version of jitsi-meet works with these versions of jicofo
and jvb. I think the most trouble free approach would be to update the
whole suite.

Hope this helps.

Best,
George
