I've recently did an extensive search for a VOIP program that allows
more than one service to be active at a time, and Jitsi is the best
I've found. Great job so far. There are a few things I'd like to see
changed on Jitsi though.
1. The contacts. It is not possible to add a phone
number to the contacts. It'd be very helpful if we could add phone
numbers to the contacts, and select a default account to use to contact
them. It'd also be nice if we could, when calling them, select an
2. Compression. It would be best if each account had its own
compression settings. Different services accept different
compression, so to be truely capable of multiple services, it really
should set compression differently for each account.
3. Notifications. It'd be nice if there was two sound check boxes in
the events table, one for the "Audio Out" sound device, and one for
the "Notifications" sound device. Some sounds are best to go through
the "Audio Out" like the dialing sound and busy signal and stuff
like that, while the "Incoming call" needs to be on the
"Notifications" sound device so it is always heard.
4. Video. I'd prefer if it did not initalize video when the Jitsi
starts. That can bring up annoying video capture drivers on each
load, which have to be minimized or shut down. That gets annoying
when you have to do it every time you turn on your computer.
Especially when a lot of people will probably never use video.
Other than that it's great. I only use it on SIP. I don't have any
other accounts, except Skype, and you don't have it setup for Skype
yet. I'll probably quite using Skype soon though.
