[jitsi-users] suggested improvement for SIP connections

#1

Hi,

I use Jitsi to connect to an Asterisk PBX server. When handling incoming
calls, the Jitsi call window only displays the callers location, i.e., New
York NY or Bergen NJ etc. but does not display the phone number. Would it be
possible to display the caller ID with phone number on incoming SIP calls?

Thanks,
Jeff

You are set up wrong in some way. I get the caller ID number with no problem, and do not get a location. I am using Jitsi with the Elastix distribution of Asterisk.

We display whatever "display name" we receive from the server. We will
hence only display "New York NY" if that's what we found in the message.
If you have control over your asterisk installation then you could
change it to put in the display name whatever you'd like to see when you
receive calls.

I am using the PIAF distribution and I only have the problem with Jitsi. the
Siemens A58H (Hard phone), Polycom 601 and Twinkle (softphone) all display
the caller ID properly. I only have this issue with Jitsi. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jeff

It is also important to note that the Jitsi call history does display the
caller id

Yup, we show the uri there and the display name in the call dialog.
If you can make sure that your server sets display name as you want it to
appear your issue would be solved.

I do agree that it would be nice to also show the uri in the call dialog,
undreneath the name. Could you please open an issue for this?

Hi,

with latest changes (build.3574) display name and address are shown
together on incoming call dialog (before you answer the call) and in
the call dialog for in/out calls.

Cheers
