I would like to ask why suddenly two new contacts appeared in my jit.si?
We did a couple of message broadcasts on jit.si. Hence the contacts.
The reason for the broadcasts was a security breech described here:
This happened without me upgrading the jit-si software. And it happened
to other jit.si users too.
Yes, users that were online at the time of the broadcast should have seen both. Users that came online later should have seen only one.
Is this some kind of back-door in jit.si?
No. It just shows messages that it receives.
The contacts were
That is me. I did the second broadcast.
That was the first broadcast from Openfire. It only went to users that were online at that point and so we had to do a second one, which I sent as myself.
and appeared as chat contacts.
It seams that firstname.lastname@example.org is connected to a developer at jit.si
The strange thing is that without any upgrade of the software this
happened. This tells me that the jit.si client can be manipulated remotely.
If this would have happened after an upgrade to jit.si, then I could
believe that it is a software bug.
Eeer .... Jitsi supports instant messaging and so it shows you messages that you receive. You *can* receive messages from people not on your list which is why we have a special "Not in Contact List" group that appears when this happens. This has been the case for all versions in the last seven years.
In other words: it's not a bug, it's very much a feature!
