[jitsi-users] Sound notifications in MUC and restoring connection

#1

Dear All,

Our team recently started using Jitsi, and thee are issues i'd like to ask
about:

1. There is no sound notification of new message in xmpp MUC mode. E.g. if
in muc conference window new message arrives there is no sound
notification. I may suppose that it is feature, made to not overnotify user
in multi user chat. But in our situation we have only 3 participants and we
often work in remote desktop, which hides Jitsi windows. The Events tab do
not include any suitable event to define sound to it. So if there is any
way to turn this in please tell where, unfortunately I'm not a developer,
so i can not contribute to add this myself.

2. Jitsi client (Win7x64, latest nightly x64 for win) does not restore
connection to xmpp server (global status online/offline) if server is
behind openvpn once openvpn disconnected and connected again. How can I
handle this? May be there some options to force reconnection attempt after
some period of time.

3. What user name and password should be used to connect to TURN server
which is set up in Tools->Account->Account reg wizard->Ice Tab ->
Additional STUN servers -> Add button -> STUN server window -> turn on TURN
support check box. The user name and password there are mandatory, should i
use xmpp account username and password? I have set up my XMPP Server / Turn
Server infrastructure as descrived in Jitsi-meet manual
https://github.com/jitsi/jitsi-meet/blob/master/INSTALL.md

3.1. How do I actually check, that Jitsi client (Win7x64, latest nightly
x64 for win) have successfully connected to STUN/TURN server and used it
for communication. What should be in the log files of Jitsi Client?

3.2 How to enable logging of TURN server which is described here
https://github.com/jitsi/jitsi-meet/blob/master/INSTALL.md to debug
connections from clients.

My Infrastructure:

Server: Ubuntu 12.04 x64, Prosody 0.10
Clients: Windows 7 x64, Windows Server 2012 x64 with latest nightly biuld
of Jitsy x64 for windows.

4. There are some mistakes in russian translation of Jitsi UI. How can i
contrubute and correct them?

Thank you in advice,
Kind regards,
Maxim Golodnyuk

Could you please open a ticket for this? Maybe someone would want to contribute this.

Autoreconnect is supposed to work automatically. If it isn't then Jitsi is not getting the appropriate events from the OS (or maybe we are ignoring them for some reason).

3. What user name and password should be used to connect to TURN
server which is set up in Tools->Account->Account reg wizard->Ice Tab
-> Additional STUN servers -> Add button -> STUN server window ->

The user name and password that have been configured on the TURN server.

I have

set up my XMPP Server / Turn Server infrastructure as descrived in
Jitsi-meet manual
https://github.com/jitsi/jitsi-meet/blob/master/INSTALL.md

I am confused. The first part of your question is about Jitsi while the second makes reference to Jitsi Meet. Those are two different applications so I am not sure exactly what you are trying to do.

3.1. How do I actually check, that Jitsi client (Win7x64, latest
nightly x64 for win) have successfully connected to STUN/TURN server
and used it for communication. What should be in the log files of
Jitsi Client?

You should see the TURN server address in the call info dialog that pops up when you press the "i" button in the call dialog.

3.2 How to enable logging of TURN server which is described here
https://github.com/jitsi/jitsi-meet/blob/master/INSTALL.md to debug
connections from clients.

Not sure. You may want to ask that question on the forum of that TURN server.

You can do that at translate.jitsi.org
