In the above discussion about Skype, people forget that there are SIP
services with the capability to connect with Skype using audio/video
(like ippi.fr). The schema is user->SIP server->gateway->Skype. Using
this, personally I don't need to install Skype nor perform complex
tricks to do so. I'm happy!! hahah.
The only issue is with chat usage. SIP protocol doesn't support chat
(that's I know), but I hope will appear genius that can develop that
feature...

The Skype SIP gateways do not support SIMPLE so while making audio calls (only to PSTN numbers or *from* skype users and only in narrowband ) is possible, sending messages is not.
