[jitsi-users] SIP

#1

I'm probably showing my ignorance here but am I supposed to be able to
use SIP (or some other protocol) to create a direct user-user
connection rather than use Google, Yahoo, etc as a middleman?

If so, could someone advise or point me to a how-to guide please?

#2

I've written a tutorial about replacing skype with SIP if it might help you here it is:
http://idilix.net/foss-alternative-skype-replacement
Let me know if it was helpful or not

Thanks but there's something wrong with that page and it just goes to
the Home page.

Thanks, that was helpful and I understand how to register for a SIP address now.

I thought perhaps there was a way to connect party-party directly with
Jitsi (using IP addresses or dyndns addresses) as I saw the SIP port
(5060 and 5061) settings under Advanced and thought if they were
forwarded on the router it would facilitate that. If that's not the
case, is it necessary to forward those ports for Jitsi to work (I
don't use UPnP on my router so it won't auto-configure).

you can also go to the top-right seach box and type "skype" and hit
search, the first result will be the article.

We have ICE for XMPP so that's how calls would work there (if a direct
connection is at all possible).

We don't currently have ICE for SIP so the only way to have that would
be for both parties to have public IPs or belong to the same NATed network.

Hope this helps,
Emil

Only the first page of the article is working. Clicking on page '2', or '3', or 'next', or 'last' all still go back to the home page.

I've disabled paging that was causing wrong redirections, everything is in one page now.
Should be possible to read the entire tutorial now.
Thx for letting me know!
